Try thinking like a first century Jewish person. By understanding their thoughts, we can be more effective when witnessing to our Jewish and/or Muslim friends. We can understand why the Jews had such a difficult time understanding that Jesus was the Messiah. Romans 1:16; Luke 7:29-30; Exodus 23:20, 24:9; Numbers 23:19; John 1: 14, 1:18, 6:46, 12:40-41 (NKJV)

Pastor Mike will be preaching a series of sermons dealing with authenticating Jesus as Lord. This is the first of that series. As we learn about Jesus’ purpose and ministry, it helps to understand the Jewish culture mindset at that time. In this sermon, we look at the origin of the Scribes, Pharisees and Saducees. These groups put up walls around God’s laws that became obstacles to really knowing and following His Word. Are there obstacles in your lives to knowing and following Jesus? Mark 7:5 (NKJV)

    Authenticating the Lord Jesus
We recognize Jesus by many titles: Messiah, Lord, God, Christ, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, First and Last, Bright and Morning Star. It is important the we validate (or authenticate) Jesus so that we can build a bridge with others and deepen our own faith. Today we look at scriptures that help us do just that. Mark 1: 1-11; Acts 19:1-6; Luke 3:1-4; John 1:6-11; 2Kings 1:1-8; Malachi 3:1, 4:5-6; Isaiah 11:1-2; Daniel 9:24-27 (NKJV)

Paul wants us to have the same attitude and mindset as Christ. He begins Philippians 2 with some “If, Then” statements basically saying that since “this” is true, then you should be doing “this” and not be doing “this”. However, before we can put those things into practice, we must first delve into the mindset of Christ and try to understand how He could have left his home in Heaven to come to Earth as a bondservant and die a humiliating death all because He loved us. The Coming of the Messiah
    Series: Christmas
Pastor Dr. Mike Clements explains how Matthew used the Greek translation for his text in Matthew 1 and 2 to tell the story of Jesus’ conception and birth. Using the Greek words for first born and virgin were more exact than the Hebrew words. Biblical writers wrote what God inspired them to write even if they didn’t fully understand everything they wrote. We don’t have to understand everything in order to be saved, we only have to believe and have faith in Jesus. Matthew 1: 18-2: 6; Isaiah 7: 14; Isaiah 9: 6; Isaiah 11 (NKJV)

This parable shocked the people who thought they were good and followed all the laws and hated those who did not, like the tax collector. Jesus explained that those who recognized they were sinners, humbled themselves and asked for mercy and forgiveness for their sins would be justified. It is in coming to God with a repentant heart and accepting Jesus as our Savior that we are saved, not by our good deeds. Luke 18:9-14; Proverbs 8:13, 16:18; Psalm 51:17 (NKJV)

The story of the ten lepers is a well-known one, but in today’s message we will explore a few ideas not commonly thought about with this story. The leper knew that there was only one place for him to go, or rather one person to whom he needed to go, Jesus. He is the only one who can save. Luke 17: 11-19 (NKJV)
