Colossians speaks to a mystery that once was hidden and now is revealed. That mystery is that, when you become a Christian, Christ dwells within you. This becomes our motivation to share the Gospel with others and to realize the Gospel is meant for all peoples on Earth. We should never discriminate when it comes to sharing God’s Word with others. Colossians 1: 24-29; Matthew 10: 5-6; Ephesians 2: 11-19; Romans 1: 16 (NKJV)

God wants us to raise our kids in a way that doesn’t bring anger into their lives. Anger is a God-given emotion, but we must direct our anger at the problem and not at the person. Out of control anger can do massive damage and is not what God intended. Ephesians 6:4, 4:26-27 (NKJV)

    The Comfort of God
    Series: No Series
How do we help those families who have lost loved ones or have been victims of evil? How do we offer them comfort? In truth, we can’t. But God can! We don’t directly control our emotions. We can control our will and our mind and in time that helps us control our emotions. Knowing what the Bible says about the death of believers and the after-life can bring us comfort. Philippians 1: 23-24; Isaiah 61:10; John 14:2; Psalm 23:7a; Matthew 17: 2-3; Revelation 19: 7-8; Revelation 21: 18-27 (NKJV)

Last week, a terrible tragedy overtook our small community. Many in the Wilson County community lost family and friends. Many question why it happened, especially in a church during the service. Brother Mike speaks about why bad things sometimes happen, even to good people. He talks about how we can have hope even in the midst of such great tragedy. Habakkuk 2-3; John 3:16; Romans 8:28; Revelation 20: 10-15, 21: 1-5 (NKJV)

As Martin Luther studied Romans 1:17, he only saw the side of condemnation regarding the justice of God. He saw the righteousness of God as a condemnation of sinners. After much studying though, Luther began to realize that the justice of God is a good thing. We are made righteous by faith, not by works or actions. It was the justice of God that sent Jesus Christ to the cross because sin had to be paid for; there had to be a blood sacrifice. Now because Christ paid for all our sins, we are made righteous when we accept Him as our Savior. Romans 1:17 (NKJV)

    Tradition or Scripture

Jesus chastised the Pharisees and Scribes for putting their traditions before the scriptures. Many churches and people still do this today. What is the test for whether a particular action or requirement is man-made or God designed? Check the scriptures. If it is not there, then it is a man-made tradition and not from God. Jesus asked, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?” Matthew 15: 1-3 (NKJV)

As we read the story of the Israelites escape from Egypt and the crossing of the Red Sea, we see that God not only led the Israelites, but in their great time of need He moved from the front of the group to the rear to protect them from the approaching Egyptian army. Likewise, if we are willing, God will lead us where He wants us to go and when Satan is trying to attack us, He will have our back and be our defender. Exodus 14:1-31 (NKJV)

Whether a person is killed by accidents, natural disasters, or human cruelty, does not mean that they are worse sinners than those who survive. Jesus tells us in Luke 13 that everyone will eventually die. The important thing is to repent of your sins and get right with God so you will not perish but have everlasting life! Luke 13: 1-5; John 14:1-3 (NKJV)

He also speaks of the flag of our faith, the symbol of our Christian freedom-the Lord’s Supper. Both of these symbols remind us that freedom is not free. It is only brought about by the shedding of blood. Galatians 5:1; 1Corinthians 11:24

    God’s People Are Color-Blind!
    Series: No Series
Jesus tries to help the disciples see their prejudice and lead them to where they need to be (color-blind). Just like the disciples, Christians sometimes let our fears and bad experiences prejudice us against certain groups of people. And like the disciples, we need to learn to be color-blind and accepting of all people who come to seek Christ regardless of color, race, or gender. Matthew 15:21-29 (NKJV)
