The Sermon on the Mount-An Introduction
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus addresses the oral laws of the time and the Biblical law given by God. He takes a polemic (offensive) side in explaining the difference between these laws. The Sermon on the Mount teaches about the law of Moses and how it is different from the oral laws the Pharisees preached. Matthew 5; John 3:3; Matthew 4:25; Luke 6:12-13, 17-19; John 10:16; Micah 5:2; Galatians 2:20, 3: 11-13, 22 (NKJV)

    Sabbath Controversy (Part 2)
Bro. Mike continues to look at the inconsistencies between the Biblical law and the oral law concerning the Sabbath. He also explains the terms Apologetics, Pluralistic, and Polemics and how they apply to Christianity today. Matthew 12: 1-14; John 10: 16; Matthew 11: 28-30; Hebrews 4: 1-11 (NKJV)

    Sabbath Controversy
Jesus and His disciples broke the law. The law broken was not, however, the written law but the oral law prescribed by the sages. Jesus has authority not only over the law, but He has authority to interpret the law. Matthew 12: 1-8; Hebrews 9: 15-23; Matthew 27: 50-51, 22: 29, 23: 1-8, 5: 6-7 (NKJV)

    Authority Over the Sabbath
The Sabbath is the heart of Judaism. It is the only day of creation given a name. There are thousands of Oral Laws governing this day, many more than what are in Scripture. Jesus showed His authority over the Sabbath by healing the man at Bethesda The Pharisees were livid because, although Jesus broke no Scriptural laws, He did break their oral laws. In a similar fashion, Martin Luther led the Great Reformation after studying the Bible and realizing that many of the “laws” of the Catholic Church were not found in Scripture and were in fact just traditions. We are saved by grace through faith and nothing else! Praise God! John 5: 1-47; 1 Corinthians 1: 17-18; 1 Corinthians 15” 1, 3-4; John 6:29 (NKJV)

Too Many Plates (Authority Over Tradition)
Do you have too many plates (traditions) in your spiritual life? Things that are demanded of you by church or family traditions but are not scriptural? Take a hard look at the things you are asked to do or believe in. Are they scriptural or are they just church and/or family traditions? Luke 5: 33-39 (NKJV)

    Jesus Has Authority Over Sinners
At this time, there was a lot of tension among the religious rulers of the day. They had seen Jesus cast out demons and heal a leper. Then, they see Him tell a lame man his sins have been forgiven and then tell him to get up and walk. Now He calls a tax collector to be one of his disciples and then goes to eat with a house full of tax collectors and other “undesirables”. The tension comes about because Jesus’ actions are forcing them to make a decision about Him that contradicts all their traditions and (oral) laws. Luke 5: 27-31; Luke 18: 10-14; Matthew 9:13, Mark 2: 16 (NKJV)

    Screaming For the Rooftop
Jesus forgave the sins of the lame man and then healed him in front of the Pharisees and religious leaders, once again proving that he was God. Luke 5: 17-26; Leviticus 4:20; (Parallel Passages-Mark 2: 1-12; Matthew 9: 1-8) NKJV

    Jesus Heals A Leper
The healing of the leper is important for several reasons. The Bible outlined in Leviticus 13 the law concerning people with leprosy. Leviticus 14 tells us the ritual for cleansing a healed leper. But, until Luke 5: 12, no Jewish leper had ever been healed. Give a listen as Bro. Mike explains the significance of this healing and how it further gives evidence of Jesus as the Messiah and Son of God. Luke 5: 12-16 (NKJV) Parallel verses: Matthew 8: 1-4; Mark 1: 40-45

In today’s message, Brother Mike shares passages that authenticate Jesus’ authority as Messiah. They show authority in His teachings as well as over demons (evil spirits), diseases, and nature. Haggai 2:6-9; Malachi 3:1; Matthew 4:13-16; Luke 4:31-41; Matthew 4:23-25; Luke 5:1-4; John 1:34-45, 2:2; Luke 5:5-11 (NKJV)

    Interpretations Lead to Expectations
The Jews interpreted the scriptures as them being on the inside track with God and everyone else was on the outside. This interpretation led them to the expectation that the Messiah would come and conquer their enemies (the Romans) and make them a ruling kingdom here on earth. Are your interpretations and expectations of the Messiah aligned with God’s Word? Luke 4: 14-30; Isaiah 61: 1-2; Isaiah 58: 6; Ephesians 1: 7 (NKJV)

    Jesus-The Messiah
Jesus began his ministry healing thousands and telling his followers that the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. The real pivot point in his ministry was in Matthew 12:22 when he healed the blind and mute man by casting out the demon possessing him. This had never been done before and it was at this point that people began to recognize him as the Messiah. Matthew 4:17; Mark 1: 14b-15; Luke 4:14b-15; 1 Corinthians 15: 1-4; Isaiah 11: 1-2 (KJV)

    No Greater Joy
    Series: Mother's Day
Children can bring great joy to our lives. We hope that will not make the same mistakes we did; but when they do make mistakes, we hope that we have taught (modeled) how to repent and ask for forgiveness. Our greatest joy is seeing our children (grandchildren) come to know Jesus as their Savior and accept the gift of Salvation. 3John 1:4 (NKJV)
